The principles of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) are a key component of HDRN Canada’s strategic plan, which outlines our vision of transformative health data use and a future that better supports health equity. This presentation will explore some of the challenges with accurately and meaningfully using sex and gender in routinely collected data. Morgan Stirling of the University of Manitoba will provide an overview of their work focused on addressing the inclusion and representation of trans and gender diverse people in cancer health services research.

About the Speaker

Morgan Stirling is a queer, nonbinary Ph.D. candidate at the University of Manitoba. They have over 10 years of experience working in the area of health equity and 2SLGBTQ+ people. Prior to their Ph.D., Morgan worked in Manitoba’s cancer system, where they learned about different structural and systemic issues impacting the ability of trans and gender-diverse people to access safe and respectful care. This led Morgan to their Ph.D. work, where they investigate ways to improve how gender diversity is included and represented in cancer research.
